**MY CASELOAD IS CURRENTLY FULL. **
I am a white settler and a member of the queer community. I have expertise working with folks of diverse sexual orientations, genders, and relationship structures. Many of my clients are neuroatypical. I practice from an anti-oppression, intersectional, trauma-informed lens which considers the impact of systemic barriers and discrimination.
Therapeutic Approach: I prioritize building a warm and trusting working relationship, where sessions feel like a conversation. I aim to help you feel understood and to better understand yourself, while developing skills to shift unhelpful or harmful patterns. Expect that I will gently challenge you out of your comfort zone to create new awareness and change - while providing a climate of support to make this tough work possible. I use research-supported strategies and draw from different approaches to fit your needs and resources (both time and financial).
I use a combination of interpersonal process (talking through patterns and situations to give you a different perspective), more concrete Cognitive Behaviour methods (working with thoughts, feelings, and behaviours) or Dialectical Behaviour skills (which focus on regulating emotions and tolerating distress). Homework assignments are most often used gather data to give us a better picture of your difficulties or to shift behaviour. We may also use Mindfulness – in a personalized, adapted way.
Credentials, Training, Experience: I am a Registered Psychologist (CPBC#2414) with a Psy.D. degree in clinical psychology from the Memorial University of Newfoundland. My training program was developmental (across the lifespan including disorders of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood). I completed training rotations in clinical sexology, inpatient psychiatric care, outpatient care, and community psychology.
My accredited predoctoral residency was completed at BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services in forensic psychology. My doctoral thesis investigated ways to adapt mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) skills in a low-barrier, accessible way to decrease psychological distress.
Until 2019, I worked with inpatients in the provincial forensic service around complex difficulties related to substance use, psychosis, personality, mood, anxiety and effective functioning in relationships. Until 2024 I practiced at West Coast Centre for Sex Therapy, focusing on difficulties related to sex, relationships, trauma, gender and sexual orientation. I now work in private practice, typically with folks who have complex diagnoses, neurodivergence, and LGBTQ2IA+ identities.
